Church of the Spiral Tree
by Skippy

Break out bottle of Blackberry wine to pass around.

People wash hands in ritual bath for cleansing before going to circle.

Folks quietly go to the circle, being led by one or two with lights, but no other lights or candles are allowed. Darkness is part of the atmosphere. At the circle entrance, the lights are put out, leaving the only light being a candle held by the first priest.

The second priest smudges the people as they enter the circle as the priestess hands them an egg and says:

"Enter with perfect love and perfect trust."

Once everyone is in place, Second Priest reads:

"I pass from one time into the other, yet am between one time and another. I completely shed winter's sleep. As a time of passing, transition, it is powerful - a time of balance - equal day and equal night - so a time of magic. I am poised between being bound, and the movement of Spring. Bound like sleeping beauty who is released by love's kiss into the violent passion of Spring. Bound as in the cosmic egg, which exploded when the cosmos was hatched. This is the explosive moment of creation - moving dynamically, chaotically."

Priestess lights central fire using torch lit from candle. As fire is being lit, Skippy reads his stuff here.

Second Priest reads the mystery of the egg and the meaning of the spring equinox.

"Eggs are a symbol of rebirth, renewal, the promise of new life springing forth. Our seeds, our thoughts, our eggs, have lain dormant throughout the winter months. Now the light beckons the life force us within to stir. The masculine energies that summer brings balance the feminine, watery energies of winter, and together, birth a new life from the seeds of past experience: a life rich in the wisdom of experience, brimming with the promise of times future."

Priest tells the people to meditate on the egg, thinking of the changes they want for the coming season.

PAUSE

Priest cracks his egg, throwing the shell into the fire, and takes a bite (not everyone has to do this), and leads everybody else into cracking their eggs too.

"Spring Equinox is a celebration of balance. For it is not quite Spring and yet not quite winter, it is the time when we are perched magically between the two seasons. The trees and plants are stirring with renewed life, and yet we still receive the wintery March storms. It is a time to remember our balance in the greater scheme of things. We are an important part of all that happens around us, our actions and deeds have effects upon the Earth, Her people, and the Universe. So it is the time of the year when our need to walk in balance with the Universe is most evident. It is a time for Spring cleaning, on all levels, the house, the yard, your neighborhood, your psyche, so we may plant the seeds of the future desired."

First Priest:
"I call upon the Norns to give us a glimpse of our fate in the coming season."

Priest cracks open cookie and reads fortune. Pass around basket of cookies with the candle.

After all have read fortunes, do water sharing.
