Church of the Spiral Tree
by Skippy Rob & Linda

Start by the sharing of blackberry wine. Have everyone squirt each other with the sacred squirt bottle.

Drumming begins at the circle, summoning the folks (do not tell them about this in advance).

Do not tell people to be quiet, let them talk as they will as they assemble, keeping the comfortable energies and sense of group intact into the beginning of the ritual. The drummer is to keep drumming until people finally settle down (the brighter folk should naturally be shushing the louder folk).

Once everybody is settled in (and they should naturally form a circle), the drumming should slowly fade away, leaving a moment of quiet (not too long, or people get restless).

Priest recites:

"When shadows fall
and day is done
where water flows
and fire glows
under sky grown dark
upon earth below
here we stand."

"Feel the flow
join the fun
greet the spirits
from all around
from the many
become one
here we stand."

"Light within
dark without
all in balance
day and night
past or future
matter not
here we stand."

"Look within
and hear the voice
that speaks of dreams
and demands a choice
between life mundane
and magic's might
here we stand."

"On magic's path
we do meet
in temple wild
circle complete
we come for worship
in trust and love
here we stand."

Priestess reads:

"Balanced as we are on the cusp of the two moons, on the Equinox, on the time of equal light and dark, time but not time, we can step away from everything around us and look upon everything all at once."

"Tonight is the last night of the ninth moon, the Hazel. This tree shares its gift of intuition, wisdom from above, through its seed, the hazel nut. The hazel nut is a symbol of the patience of time. It takes nine years for the Hazel tree to mature enough to bear fruit. Ponder long on that. Are you better than the Tree of Magic?"

"Vine Moon follows, bringing a time of true completion and new beginnings. The tenth moon is the sum total of the previous nine months' experiences, from the seeds that were conceived in Birch, and planted in Rowan, and have now been harvested. Look back upon the past months, and see what you have reaped from your harvest."

"For this brief moment in the span of the year, we can step out of the linear time cycle and look around us, at our past, our present, and our future, for all are connected."

"After the harvest comes a time of thanksgiving. Let us take a moment now to do just that. As we go around the circle, I want each of you in turn to speak briefly about what you've accomplished over the past nine months, how it's affected you, and how you hope to use this in the future."

Have everyone speak briefly.

After all have had their say, then ask them to meditate quietly with their eyes closed, and think upon the upcoming months.
